Opening Soon in Moose Jaw!

July 4, 2017

I can’t believe the time has come…  Since the inception of Bra Necessities I always knew additional locations would be in our future, but I didn’t image that in 2017, only seven years after opening in Camrose, we would be opening our second location in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan.  It feels surreal!

Some of you may wonder, “Why Moose Jaw?”.  Surprisingly, Moose Jaw has been on our radar for some time now as a potential Trunk Show location.  Earlier this year we had an opportunity to visit Moose Jaw, and we fell in love with a space in Historic Downtown Moose Jaw that suited Bra Necessities so well.  Imagine old world charm, brick walls, high ceilings, and beautiful natural light, the list goes on… After doing the research and creating the detailed plan, Connie and I took a step back to consider our options.  It didn’t take long before we knew that taking the leap was the right decision, so here we are in Moose Jaw!

As we turn this corner in the evolution of our business, we want to take this opportunity to thank you. You’ve helped us learn, evolve and grow into something much more meaningful than a physical store or specific article of clothing.  Thank you for supporting us as we have supported you.  We couldn’t be more excited, yet more humbled, to be taking this leap.  Without you we wouldn’t be here today, and we feel incredible blessed to be on this journey.

If you are ever in Moose Jaw, please do stop in at 41 High Street West in Downtown Moose Jaw.  If you have family or friends in the area help us spread the word that we are in town, and will be opening mid-July!

We will be seeing you again soon,

Check out their story:

“I’m Leslie Scott. My husband, Peter, a lifelong farmer, challenged me to get creative, and think of a way to save our 1850s barn. Our grand lady is perched gracefully at the top of a hill, and one can see her from miles away. She is a landmark in our community near Toronto, Ontario.
Here’s the problem; farmers can’t produce enough income to save these glorious reminders of our agricultural heritage. They are fast being replaced with industrial looking utility buildings. And where’s the romance and imagination in that? What do you want your country drive to look like?
I put on an apron, rolled up my sleeves, and began making bath and beauty products in my kitchen. I used only the finest, sustainable ingredients. I filled up my pick up truck, and hit the road, cold-calling on retail stores. Our products are now sold across North America. How cool is that?
Once we save our barn, we are going to help save other barns across North America. To read about how our barn-saving campaign works, please visit our FAQ on our website. or”

Your Wedding Intimates Ensemble

February 8, 2017

Did you get engaged over the holidays?  Maybe the question is yet to come on Valentine’s Day!  The day Derrick proposed is still the best day of my life, but I’m sure it will be surpassed when we get married on February 25th

When he popped the question, my answer was simple, and then the excitement rolled in, and the flood of emotion!  Is anyone else an emotional bride?!

After we told our family and friends, we dove into dreaming and planning our Big Day.  Oh, the possibilities… The venue, the date, the invitations, the photographers, the colors, the favors, the flowers, the decorations, the speeches, the music, the food, the cake, the dress, the tux, the other dresses and suits, the seating charts, the …  There is so much to think about when planning a wedding.  A word of advice:  Don’t forget to plan the intimates!

Before I even met Derrick, I knew I would not be wearing a strapless dress on my Big Day.  Why?  Well, it’s awfully hard to find a comfortable, well supporting strapless bra in a HH-Cup!  Even for me at Bra Necessities, where we can search and find almost any kind of bra imaginable!  And more, strapless bras are very rarely pretty (especially in my size)!  I wanted to feel comfortable and beautiful right from the undergarments outward on my wedding day, so when he popped the question, I already knew the kind of dress and undergarments I would be looking for.

Don’t leave the undergarments until a mere few weeks before the wedding.  You would be surprised how often brides (AND Bridesmaids, AND Mothers of the Bride and Groom) leave their undergarments until the last minute!  Although, we do always try to carry a full stock of sizes and colors at Bra Necessities, during the summer event season when countless people are looking for special occasion bra styles, underwear and shapewear, sizes can get picked over in between orders arriving.  We recommend shopping for your undergarments 3 months before the event, but a minimum of 4-6 weeks is necessary to find the perfect undergarment ensemble, just in case a special order is needed.

To set yourself, and your wedding party, up for wardrobe success, look for your undergarments before the gowns.  Find out what kinds of styles are possible for your shape and size.  Learn the color options that would be available to you if that is important.  Do you want a deep and plunging neckline in your gown, well take a look for that specialty bra.  Do you want a low back gown?  I hope you can go bra-less if you do!  Do you want a form-fitting gown?  What about the wedding night?  Would you like our help to plan something special?

The style of undergarments a woman prefers is a very personal thing.  Some women prefer a matching set, others just need it to do the job and don’t mind what it looks like.

Kim’s Health and Wellness Journey

January 6, 2017
Happy New Year!
It is the time for new beginnings, new goals and resolutions. What did you resolve to do this year?
One of the most common New Year’s Resolutions is to lose weight, and although I don’t specifically resolve to lose weight, the turn of a new year always reminds me to set intention to focus on health and wellness.
As you can imagine we help every shape, size and age of women in our fitting rooms.  Over time we get to watch our clients go through various transformations. Some get married and have children, and others we see at various times throughout their weight loss journey. A few years ago after chatting with a client in the fitting room about her journey to lose weight, I took a big leap and hired a personal trainer on the recommendation of my client. I was terrified at first, like many of our first-time clients are, but working out with my personal trainer, Kimi, by my side has been one of the most rewarding, confidence-boosting experiences of my life, similar to my first bra-fitting experience.
Over the course of three years, and a few train derailments later (hey, I wouldn’t be human if I didn’t fail every once in a while), I’ve developed a very personal view on health and wellness from my days at the gym with Kimi. I am still not the thinnest I have ever been, but I would say I am the strongest I have ever been – physically and mentally. It makes me feel strong when I can go farther, harder or faster than I did the week or month before, and I have learned that when you feel strong, you feel confident! Fitness for me doesn’t equal a specific number on the scale or size in my closet. It doesn’t mean that I can’t indulge in my sweet tooth or have that glass of wine. It means making conscious decisions to live a happy and health conscious life, and forgetting the pressure of my inner voice telling me I should be a certain weight or size.
The core of what my trainer, Kimi, and I do on a daily basis is very similar. Simply put, we help others feel more confident, just in different ways. I am so grateful to have such a warm and encouraging coach by my side through my journey!
PS: The most important workout gear in my experience:
  1. Proper Sports Bra
  2. Proper Shoes

My Favorites: the Elomi Energize Sports Bra
